cns060606 Key: C, Overtone: F# Length: 56" Bell size: 5 x 4.25" Mouthpiece: Wax Weight: 9 lb 12 oz Price: $525 |
A fantastic big bore Carins style bloodwood didge. I personally selected this and
a few other instruments from literally 1000's of instruments from numerous sources
on my trips to the Cairns area. This is the one I have been keeping as my
personal quintessential big bore C since 2006, but I don't often play this style
any more so it's time to let it go. Deep crisp sound with great clarity and loud
clear vocals. Think David Hudson's kind of sound. Medium low backpressure,
yet with the right smooth subtle rhythmic technique, this baby can be played at
dizzying speed as well as meditatively. Beautiful dark/light coloration finished
in a satiny sheen. |

dar090901 Key: C# Overtone: Length: 49 1/2" Bell size: 2 7/8" Mouthpiece: Wax Weight: 4 lb 13 oz Price: $275 |
I usually don't buy this sort of "generic" didge, but I was smitten by it when I
played it, the price was right, and I figured someone would really enjoy it at
the bargain price. I purchased this and several other didges from an aboriginal
proprietor in Darwin and it was claimed to be painted by an aboriginal woman.
But, since most of the instruments that flow through Darwin are not fully aboriginally
made, ultimately I don't know its actual provenance, and I have listed
it as contemporary. It has strong mago like character but not as dry in sound quality
which gives it a little more contemporary flair. It has medium easy playing
backpressure for it's key and lots of grip and traction in response to retoflex
western Arnhem land style playing, but also can sound sweet and clear with
open character when played with "western" technique. It would be a great didge
for beginner or intermediate player who enjoys a lower pitch didge sound. Painted
in acrylic with feather and dot patterned motif. |
